Lose It! alternative: Renzy vs Lose It!
Both log from a photo and both come in several languages. In Renzy the photo is the centre and there are no ads; in Lose It!, photo logging is Premium.
Lose It!
When to choose Lose It! over Renzy
Lose It! has two things going for it: a database of more than 56 million foods and recipes, and a social side — adding friends and joining support groups — according to its App Store listing. For a lot of people, logging alongside others is what turns it into a habit. If that is what motivates you, it has a concrete advantage there that has nothing to do with scanning technology.
The verdict
The most practical difference is what comes free and what does not. In Lose It!, photo logging and the barcode scanner are Premium, according to its App Store listing, and on Google Play it says it contains ads. Renzy is paid (a 7-day trial, then Pro), the photo is the centre and there are no ads. And we write the content in each language, not just the buttons. If you want to start without paying and the group motivates you, Lose It!. If you want the photo to be the way in, with no ads, Renzy.
FAQ
Which works better outside the United States?
Both come in several languages (Lose It! in 8, according to its App Store listing). We have not measured them with local food, so we will not tell you which is more accurate. In Renzy, if the dish is in the photo it gets estimated even if it is in no catalogue, and common foods are checked against BEDCA and USDA.
Does Renzy have challenges or a social side?
Yes. There are streaks and achievements for the habit side, plus a weekly leaderboard among friends in the social section — you invite whoever you want, you do not compete against strangers.
What languages is Renzy available in?
Spanish, English, French and German, with original content written in each — tools, blog and food pages, not just translated buttons.
